Probing the floor. CAP2 is the second Canal Access Preparation tip. Acteon’s tip sheet describes a “micro-blade tip for canal probing, the location of calcified canals, cleaning the pulp chamber floor and the opening of mesial canals”; their brochure names locating MB2 and removing dentine bridges by a sweeping method.

›  Clean, disinfect and sterilise before each use, following Acteon’s cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation instructions for tips (J02001).
›  Replace at least once a year. Acteon: because a maximum number of uses cannot be set, tips in routine use should be “replaced at least once a year”, and sooner if the tip no longer vibrates as expected or treatment slows.
›  Watch the site for heat. Acteon’s tip sheets state that the practitioner has to continually monitor the clinical site to immediately identify any heating risk.

Questions we get asked

Which generator does it fit?
Acteon’s tip sheet gives settings for the Newtron® range, including the P5 XS B.LED and Booster. Acteon advise against using their tips on other makers’ handpieces, and other makers’ tips on theirs.

What temperature can I sterilise at?
Acteon (SATELEC) have certified that Endo Success CAP and Apical Surgery tips can be sterilised with prevacuum steam at 137°C/138°C (attestation, September 2016). Follow the cleaning instructions first.
