Gutta-Smart™ · thermal response tip
Pulp vitality testingHeat test
The same handpiece that packs gutta-percha can test a tooth. Fit the thermal response tip, set the Pack handpiece to 90°C and it switches into thermal response mode – Dentsply Sirona’s indication is a tip that “subjects a tooth to heat in order to determine pulp vitality.” It is not in the kit; this is it.

1 Fit the tip, set 90°C. On the base station. Dentsply Sirona: the Pack temperature must be 90°C with this tip, to prevent overheating and patient injury.
2 Gutta-percha on the tip first. “Place gutta-percha on the thermal response tip before applying the tip to the patient’s tooth. Do not place the tip directly on the tooth!”
3 Heat in bursts. Hold the cuff switch for up to 60 seconds; a low tone tells you the set temperature has been reached.
From Dentsply Sirona’s Gutta-Smart™ directions for use. Interpretation of the response is your clinical judgement.
Does it come with the kit?
No – both the brochure and the directions list it as purchased separately.
Is it covered by the warranty?
Dentsply Sirona warrant the handpieces, not the tips. Like the pluggers, the tip gradually loses heating efficiency and should be replaced if deformed or oxidised.
