Anyone can put a curve in a file with pliers. Putting it in the right place is the difficulty. Bend too far up and the tip still points where it always did. Jordco use two matched jaws – a concave upper against a rounded anvil below – so that closing them bends the file, in their own words, up to the very last flute. That is the part that has to change direction if the tip is to find an orifice the shaft cannot see.

Why not just use pliers?
You can, and the bend lands wherever the jaws happen to grip – usually a few millimetres short of the tip. On a #10 file that difference is most of the point.
How is it reprocessed?
Preclean before use and between patients – brush off visible soil, then an ultrasonic bath with an enzymatic detergent only, one minute soaking and five sonicating. Then pouched steam autoclave: 121°C for at least 30 minutes, or 132°C for four minutes pre-vacuum. Retire it if you see excessive wear or the hinge joint starting to degrade.
