R45 is where Minima stops being a conservative preparation and starts being a large one. The apex is open, the taper is at its lowest, and a canal of that shape holds fluid the whole length rather than only apically. Matched points are worth more here, not less – you have more surface to dry and less taper to help the point find its way down.

Is R45 a common finish?
Less common than R20 or R25, which is why most practices keep one box of these against several of the smaller sizes. If your case mix runs to wider canals, stock accordingly.

One box or the assortment?
If you finish on R45 regularly, the single size makes sense. If it is occasional, the assorted box keeps the size available without a box sitting on the shelf.
