RECIPROC® Minima R45 · 25 mm · 6 files
Wide canalsOpen apexRetreatment finishingMinimally invasiveSterile, single use
Wide canal? Immature apex? A retreatment where the previous operator already took the easy dentine? R45 gives you a 0.45 mm apical preparation on a 5% apical taper that reduces to 2.0% averaged along the blade – the largest tip in the Minima range carried on the slimmest body in it. Where a conventional large file would take the coronal third with it, this one leaves it alone.
| 0.45 mm TIP DIAMETER | 5% APICAL TAPER | 2.0% AVERAGE TAPER |
This pack: 6 × RECIPROC® Minima R45, 25 mm · sterile blister, single use
Made by Dentsply Sirona – Maillefer, Switzerland
It looks counterintuitive until you follow the range: 20/.08v, 25/.08v, 35/.06v and finally ISO 45/.05v. As tip diameter rises, apical taper falls – 8%, 8%, 6%, 5% – and the average along the blade falls with it, from 3.6% down to 2.0%. That is a deliberate design decision, and it inverts the usual compromise. Ordinarily, reaching a 0.45 mm apical size means accepting whatever the taper does to the canal orifice on the way. Here the extra diameter is delivered apically and the body of the file stays conservative, which is what minimally invasive endodontics asks for: shape the apical third to the case, leave the pericervical dentine to hold the tooth together.
| ISO 45/.05v | 0.45 mm tip, 5% apical taper reducing coronally – 2.0% averaged, the lowest in the range |
| Direct use | Its low overall taper is why clinicians report using it directly in suitable canals rather than stepping through smaller sizes |
| Blue NiTi | Heat-treated for flexibility and cyclic-fatigue resistance – useful in a larger instrument, which has more to lose |
| Non-cutting tip | S-shaped cross-section, inactive tip – follows the canal rather than cutting its own path |
› Wide canals where a 0.35 mm apical preparation still leaves the file loose at length.
› Immature or open apices, where apical diameter is dictated by the anatomy rather than chosen.
› Retreatment finishing, where previous shaping has already spent coronal dentine and you would rather not spend more.
› Not for narrow canals – those start with R20, as the instructions direct.
Can I use R45 on its own?
In suitable, wider anatomy, yes – the instructions leave the starting size to your discretion outside narrow and challenging canals, and the low overall taper is what makes direct use practical. In a narrow canal, start at R20.
How does it compare with RECIPROC® blue R40 or R50?
Different design philosophy. The blue range runs regressive tapers from .08 and is positioned for regular anatomies, wider canals and retreatment. Minima R45 reaches a comparable apical size on a 2.0% average taper. If you want the conservative body, this is the one; if you want the established file for routine cases, blue remains exactly that.
Do the published percentages apply here?
No. The International Endodontic Journal laboratory study covered R20 and R25 in narrow canals; R45 was not tested. Its argument is geometric, and we would rather say so than borrow figures that were not measured on this file.
Glide path?
Required by the instructions if the file stops progressing, along with a patency check using an ISO 010 or 008 hand instrument. Never force it.
Can I reuse them?
No – sterile blister, single use.
