Obturator seated – what takes the handle off? Dentsply Sirona’s instructions describe Therma-Cut® burs as devices “intended to cut the carrier obturators (e.g. Thermafil® and GuttaCore®) at the canal entrance after placement”. The operative part ends in a non-cutting tip, made to cut the obturator by heating, and the bur runs in a turbine without water spray. This assortment holds all four sizes, ISO 010 to 016.

› Contraindications – Dentsply Sirona’s instructions list none known.
› Rubber dam – recommended by Dentsply Sirona during the procedure, to avoid swallowing or inhalation of the bur.
› Inspect before every use – Dentsply Sirona say to discard a bur that is bent, broken, corroded or has lost its marking, or that produces unusual vibration or noise. Do not apply excessive pressure.

Which obturators is it for?
Dentsply Sirona name Thermafil® and GuttaCore® carrier obturators. We stock both: Thermafil® Posterior 20–40 Assorted (20) · Thermafil® Anterior 45–100 Assorted (20) · GuttaCore® 25 (6).

Is it a cutting bur?
Dentsply Sirona describe the tip as non-cutting: it cuts the obturator by heating. Their instructions specify a turbine without spray at 300,000 rpm, so follow the instructions supplied with the pack.

Do I need it for the post space as well?
The Thermafil® Post Space Bur is a separate instrument for that job: size 050 · size 070.
