Pulp vitality testingCold testDentist use only

The cold test, 200 ml at a time

Pulp Spray is Cerkamed's refrigerant for pulp sensibility testing – in their words, a "mint-scented spray to check tooth pulp vitality". Sprayed onto a cotton pellet or the tooth, from a few centimetres, for a second or three. The mint is for the patient.

What it is for

›  Cerkamed: "Apply the product by spraying the target surface precisely and several times, from a distance of a few centimeters. Usually, a spraying time of 1-3 seconds is sufficient."

›  Cerkamed's warning, worth repeating to whoever loads the tray: "the direct contact with the liquid contents of the can through splashes or spray jets can cause frostbite on the surface of the skin and in the oral cavity".

›  Extremely flammable aerosol – Cerkamed: "Do not spray on an open flame or other ignition source. Do not pierce or burn, even after use."

›  Cerkamed: "Do not use if the person in treatment is allergic to any of the ingredients."

›  Cerkamed mark the product "TO BE USED BY DENTIST ONLY".

Pellet or straight onto the tooth?

Cerkamed's directions say the target surface, from a few centimetres, precisely. Most clinicians spray a cotton pellet and carry that to the tooth, which keeps the spray off the gingiva and the neighbours; either way, the point is a controlled cold stimulus on one tooth.

Does it replace an electric pulp tester?

It is the other half of the picture. A cold test and an electric test answer slightly different questions and are usually read together with the radiograph; we stock the spray, and make no claim about which test is the better one.
