One lead at the wall, and nothing else plugged in anywhere

A cordless motor is only cordless while the charger is where you left it. This is the original switching charger for the X-Smart® Go: it fills the power bank, and the power bank fills the handpiece inductively, with no socket on the motor at all. Dentsply Sirona are unambiguous about substitutes – “Use only the original charger” – which is a sensible position on a 5 V supply feeding a lithium-ion pack.

Worth knowing before it goes on the bench

›  Charging happens away from the chair. The instructions carry it as a warning: while the power bank is charging, it and the charger should be outside the patient environment, at least 1.5 m from the patient.
›  The motor does not run while it charges, so the power bank is the thing that keeps the list moving – park the handpiece on it between cases rather than charging at the end of the day.
›  A second charger is a second surgery. The obvious buy for a practice running the motor in more than one room, or for keeping one in the bag for domiciliary and one on the bench.
›  It is classed as non-medical equipment in Dentsply Sirona's own UDI table – the part of the system that never touches a patient.

Questions we get asked

Can I use a generic 5 V USB supply?
Dentsply Sirona say to use only the original charger, and the warranty is written around that. On a 2,000 mA supply feeding a lithium-ion power bank it is not a corner worth cutting.

My handpiece is completely flat and will not wake up.
Charge the power bank first – a discharged power bank cannot charge anything, and that is the listed cause. If the motor still does not turn on, the instructions send it to a trained service technician for battery replacement rather than to a spare part; talk to us and we will start it.
