This is the part the manual names by number. The safety section reads: to ensure continued compliance with safety, use only the power supply included with this product or supplied by Young Innovations, Inc., part number 823-711. A generic 12V brick is not a substitute – the unit's electrical classification depends on this one.

Why it matters more than it looks

The Obtura III Max is Electrical Class II with a Type BF applied part, and it holds that classification by converting mains down to low voltage outside the case. The manual puts it plainly: power supply voltage never enters the Obtura III Max, and low voltage reaches the control unit through a standard power supply connector. Substituting the supply moves the isolation, which is what the EN 60601-1 compliance rests on.

If the display shows P-1

P-1 is the Obtura III Max's power supply fault code. Obtura Spartan's published remedy is to replace the power supply, or contact the factory for repair guidance. A spare on the shelf is the difference between a swap and a fortnight without the unit.

Asked before buying

Will it plug in here? The supply ships with interchangeable receptacle blades rather than a fixed plug, so it is configured to the outlet. Ask us to confirm before ordering if you need it out of the box ready.

Can I use a third-party 12V adapter? Obtura Spartan say no, and name the part number to make the point. They also warn that use of cables or accessories other than those provided has the potential to damage the device or affect its EMC compliance.
