For the short root and the tight mouth

Second molar, limited opening, a patient who cannot give you much more. A 25 mm instrument in that space is a fight with the opposing arch before it is anything else. The 21 mm Glider does the same job – expanding a secured glide path in the same reciprocating motion as the shaping file – in a length that fits the access you actually have.

The same sequence, a shorter instrument

Nothing about the technique changes with the length. Dentsply's directions for use still put the hand file first: scout to at least an ISO 010, confirm patency, and verify a smooth reproducible glide path to a loose 010. The Glider then expands that secured path, and the shaping file follows on the same motor setting.

The 11 mm handle is the other half of the access problem, and it is on every length in the range – but it earns its keep here, where the head has least room to sit.

› Match the file length to it – a 21 mm glide path wants a 21 mm shaping file behind it.
› One setting – Glider and shaping file share the WaveOne reciprocating mode.
› Keep all three lengths – the case that needs the odd one always books itself in on a full day.

Questions we get asked

› Can I just use the 25 mm and stop short? You can, and plenty do – but in a restricted mouth the extra 4 mm is exactly what stops the head seating where you want it. That is the whole argument for stocking the short length.

› Does the glide path step still apply? Yes, unchanged. The Glider expands a secured glide path; it does not replace the hand-file work or the patency check.
