A cone made to the shape you actually cut

How long do you spend trimming a cone that was never made for the preparation? WaveOne® Gold cuts a variable taper. A standard .02 or .04 cone does not follow it, so tug back becomes a judgement. Conform Fit® cones are made to the sizes the WaveOne® Gold files prepare, by injection moulding rather than hand rolling – which is where the dimensional consistency comes from.

The tolerance figure, and what it does and does not mean

ISO 6877, the standard for root-canal obturating points, allows a tolerance of ±0.05 mm. Dentsply Sirona state that every Conform Fit® point is held to ±0.03 mm, and describe that as a 40% more consistent shape than traditional hand-rolled gutta-percha. The figure is internal testing, data on file.

Read it for what it is: a manufacturing consistency claim, not a claim about seal or outcome. What it buys you chairside is that one Primary cone behaves like the next one out of the box – which is the part of cone selection that wastes the time.

› Gauge first, then reach for the cone – the finishing file names the cone.
› Dry the canal properly – the matched Primary paper points are made to the same four sizes.
› Prefer carrier-based? Thermafil® for WaveOne® Gold Primary takes warm gutta-percha down on a matched core instead.

Questions we get asked

› Will standard cones fit a WaveOne® Gold preparation? Not properly. A fixed-taper cone cannot follow a variable-taper shape, so you end up trimming and re-gauging. Conform Fit® is made to these sizes, which is the whole point of the name.

› Cold lateral or warm vertical? Dentsply position these cones for both. The obturation technique stays yours; the sizing does the matching.
