The mirror you use all day, worth getting right

A dull mirror costs you light you have already paid for. You buy the loupes, the light, the scope – and then look at the tooth through a tired second-surface mirror with a ghost image in it. The No. 4 at Ø 22 mm is the standard adult size, and this is the ULTRA FS version of it: front surface, so one image; ULTRA coated, so a brighter one. Twelve to a pack, which is a whole surgery's worth.

What does front surface actually change?
On an ordinary mirror the light crosses the glass, reflects off the back, and crosses again – which produces a second, offset image and a small loss of brightness. A front-surface mirror reflects at the first face. One image, sharper edges, and rather more of the light you put into the mouth coming back out of it.

Front-surface mirrors mark easily – is this one different?
Hahnenkratt list scratch resistance as a property of the ULTRA coating. It is still an exposed optical surface on any make, so store the heads so the faces are not resting against instruments.

Smaller sizes?
No. 3 at Ø 20 mm for tighter access, and No. 0 at Ø 14 mm for paediatric and surgical work.
