Post removalAccess cavityPiezo ultrasonicEMS thread
The post has to come out before the retreatment can start. No. 4 is the Start-X tip for it: designed, in Dentsply Sirona's words, for working efficiently on both the top and the sides of a metal post, and described at launch as removing screw and cast posts alike.

› Works top and sides – Dentsply Sirona: suitable for working efficiently both on the top and the sides of the metal post.
› Water port – cools the insert and avoids overheating. Dentsply Sirona single this out as particularly important on metal posts, which usually need high energy.
› The directions set No. 4 at the highest power range of the five Start-X tips, and recommend irrigation for procedures that need high power.
Dentsply Sirona developed the five Start-X tips with Professor Berutti, Professor Cantatore and Dr Castellucci on a simple principle: one tip, one clinical indication, to facilitate and optimise the preparation of the access cavity.
In Dentsply Sirona's words: “higher control and precision with ultrasonic inserts specifically designed for access cavity refinement and canal orifice location.”
› Micro-milled active part – in Dentsply Sirona's words, minimising the risk of diamond grit loss in the patient's mouth.
› Resistance to fracture – Dentsply Sirona describe it as excellent.
› EMS thread – M3 x 0.5 mm. Need the other fitting? This tip is also made with an Satelec thread.
| No. 1 | Start-X® No. 1 – access wall refinement |
| No. 2 | Start-X® No. 2 – MB2 canal locator |

› Secure the tip to the handpiece with the key before use.
› Start at a lower power setting and only increase it if necessary to safely accomplish the task. Dentsply Sirona give No. 4 a range of 9–10 on a EMS miniPiezon, adjusted to the clinical application; check your unit's own instructions too.
› Irrigation is recommended for procedures that need high power, to avoid overheating.
› A visual aid is recommended, for comfort and safety. Never run the generator with a damaged tip.
› Contraindications: none known when used as recommended, but Dentsply Sirona recommend not using the tips in patients with a pacemaker.
Screw posts or cast posts?
Both. Dentsply Sirona's launch description gives No. 4 the removal of screw and cast metal posts.
Will it fit my ultrasonic unit?
This is the EMS-thread version (M3 x 0.5 mm), with Dentsply Sirona power settings for the EMS miniPiezon. If your unit takes Satelec-thread tips, choose the Satelec version.
