C-PILOT® ISO 12.5 · 21 mm · 6 sterile files
The 010 is loose, the 015 binds, and the canal is curved. Going straight from 010 to 015 asks for a 50% increase in tip diameter in one instrument. VDW's intermediate ISO 12.5 splits it: 25% to get there, another 20% to finish. At 21 mm it is the version for molars and short roots – the teeth where that extra step matters most, because the curve is usually where the binding starts.
This pack: 6 × VDW®STERILE C-PILOT® ISO 12.5, 21 mm, .02 taper · stoppers fitted · mfr code 368 021 012
Listed as 012 with us; VDW's designation is the intermediate size ISO 12.5
Made by VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany
| ISO 12.5 | 0.125 mm at the tip – the intermediate size, listed by VDW as standard stock rather than a special, colour coded brown/bronze |
| Two smaller steps | +25% from 010, then +20% to 015, instead of one 50% jump |
| 21 mm | Posterior length, matched to the 21 mm rotary and reciprocating files |
| Sterile blister of 6 | Gamma sterilised to DIN EN ISO 11137, stoppers pre-mounted |
| Thermally hardened | VDW: “High bending strength thanks to a special thermal hardening process” |
| Constant .02 taper | The ISO hand file geometry – the blade widens by 0.02 mm for every millimetre back from the tip, so the size you read is the size the canal gets |
› Only after 010 runs loose – an intermediate size smooths a transition, it does not create a path.
› Recapitulate between sizes – back to 010 to confirm patency before going up.
› Irrigate between instruments – every step makes debris the next file would otherwise pack apically.
› Single use – per VDW's recommendation and the UK position on endodontic files since April 2007 (CMO(2007)5).
Is 012 the same as ISO 12.5?
Yes – our catalogue shortens VDW's intermediate size to 012. The tip diameter is 0.125 mm; there is no separate ISO 12 instrument.
Needed if I use a mechanical glider?
Often not – a WaveOne® Gold Glider takes a loose 010 to a 015 tip on its own. It earns its slot in the canal that will not accept the glider yet, and in practices finishing glide paths by hand.
