The safe end cone, sterile out of the wrapper

MDT’s E165 – a pointed-cone diamond with an uncoated tip, 1.4 mm across with a 9 mm head on a 21 mm FG shank; coarse grit, green ring – in MONOSTERYL® packing: the same bur as the standard pack, each one individually wrapped on a roll and gamma-sterilised.

Why MONOSTERYL? Convenience

Open the wrapper, fit the bur, use it, bin it. It arrives sterile, so there is no cleaning, bagging or autoclave cycle, and no used burs waiting to be reprocessed. Every bur you pick up is a new one.

What MDT say about it

›  MDT’s catalogue sets their diamonds at 60% diamond exposure against 40% for others – "More Diamond Per Diamond®" – listing "stronger bonding" and "uniform diamond coating, including the tips" among the features, and "faster & cooler cutting/grinding" and "slower clogging" among the benefits.

›  Speed, from MDT’s instructions for a 1.4 mm head: 70,000–220,000 rpm recommended, never more than 450,000 rpm.

›  Keep the bur moving and do not press hard – MDT warn that excessive pressure and a stationary bur both generate heat.

Is it any different from the standard E165?

No. MONOSTERYL® is MDT’s packing, not a different bur: MDT sterilise it by gamma irradiation and label it single use. Use it by the expiry date printed on the pack. The same bur comes non-sterile in fives: 21 mm or 25 mm.

Can it be autoclaved and used again?

No. MDT label sterile burs single use; once used, it is discarded.
