A glide path to length on long roots, before the shaping files

Dentsply Sirona’s procedure does not start shaping until a glide path has been made and confirmed. The Glider is the file for that step: 17.02v, run at the same 500 rpm and 1.5 Ncm as every other file in the range, and taken to the working length you have already confirmed with an apex locator. This is the 31 mm version, for long roots a 25 mm file will not take to working length.

Sizes as Dentsply Sirona print them. The “v” means variable taper; the taper shown is the average along the file, not the taper at the tip. Motor settings from the Solution Guide.

What this file does

›  Its step, word for word. Step 7: “With irrigant in the canal, create and confirm a reproducible glide path using a TruNatomy® Glider in 2-3 gentle amplitudes approximately 2-5 mm.”
›  After the hand file, not instead of it. Dentsply Sirona scout the whole canal with an ISO 010 K-file and confirm working length and patency first (step 6).
›  Peck, never brush. The Solution Guide’s rule for every TruNatomy® file: “Low torque instruments - Never brush, but peck with large amplitudes.”

Where it sits in Dentsply Sirona’s sequence

1  ISO 010 K-file to length. Working length by apex locator with radiographs, irrigate, confirm patency (step 6).

2  Glider to that length. With irrigant in the canal, 2–3 gentle amplitudes of about 2–5 mm. Irrigate and repeat until the confirmed working length is reached (step 7).

3  Then Prime. Every case starts shaping with TruNatomy® Prime (step 8).

Can I skip the Glider?
Dentsply Sirona’s procedure does not: shaping starts only after a glide path has been created and confirmed. Your clinical judgement governs the case; the instructions for use govern the file.

Which motor settings?
Dentsply Sirona give one setting for every TruNatomy® file: 500 rpm and 1.5 Ncm. Set it on any of the three endo motors we stock – X-Smart® Go · X-Smart® Pro+ · VDW.SILVER® RECIPROC®.

When do I throw a file away?
Dentsply Sirona’s procedure (step 11): inspect the cutting flutes routinely on removal for unwinding and straightening, and if deformation is noted, discard it and use a new TruNatomy® instrument.
