A wider premolar clamp for upper and lower

The commonest clamp failure is not the wrong shape, it is the wrong span. The 2A is Dentech's answer one size above the No.2: flat beaks, a little wider, and listed for upper as well as lower bicuspids – the clamp to reach for when the No.2 seats but rotates.

How do I know the span is wrong?
A clamp of the right span sits still under light finger pressure on the bow. One that is too small rides up the crown; one that is too large rocks buccolingually.

Winged or wingless for a premolar?
Winged is quicker – dam, frame and clamp go on together. Wingless gives a clear view of the beaks, which matters when the margin is close to the gingiva.
