MAP System® · Hooked · N°1 · Ø1.10 mm
Apical surgery two or three times a month, and no appetite for a four-needle surgical set? The hooked N°1 is the reasonable single purchase. It carries the general-purpose Ø1.10 mm increment, it needs no decision about handedness, and it is one of PD's two stated retrograde geometries – which makes it a smaller commitment than the full Surgical Kit while still being the right instrument for the job.
This pack: 1 × Hooked needle N°1 red, Ø1.10 mm, with 16 matching plungers
Made by PD Dental, Switzerland
| Approach | Retrograde, per PD's stated intention for the Hooked and Surgery geometries |
| Bore | Ø1.10 mm – the general-purpose size across the whole MAP range |
| No handedness | One code covers both sides of the arch, unlike the right and left Surgery needles |
| Reusable | Validated by PD for 50 reprocessing cycles; the plunger inside is single-use |
› Red plungers, and enough of them. A surgical case with three root ends is three deliveries and three plungers, all of which are discarded afterwards.
› Clean it within fifteen minutes, plunger out first. PD are blunt about what set cement in the lumen means: very difficult, if not impossible, to unblock.
› Not for Biodentine, excluded by the IFU from the red and yellow needles.
Can I use it orthograde?
PD position it for retrograde work. Down a canal you want the Classic curved or the NiTi – a hooked tip is fighting the anatomy in an orthograde approach, not helping it.
Does it go in the Surgical Kit?
No. That kit carries the four handed Surgery needles and two NiTi. The hooked needles are bought separately, in whichever bore suits your cases.
