“ALWAYS begin shaping with TruNatomy® PRIME.” That is step 8 of Dentsply Sirona’s procedure, in capitals. Prime is the file the whole system is built around: a 26.04v shaping file on a slim 0.8 mm heat-treated NiTi wire, designed to shape the canal while removing dentine only where it is needed. This is the 25 mm version, the middle of the three lengths.
| 26.04v TIP / TAPER | 0.8 mm WIRE | 500 rpm 1.5 NCM |
Sizes as Dentsply Sirona print them. The “v” means variable taper; the taper shown is the average along the file, not the taper at the tip. Motor settings from the Solution Guide.

› First, every time. After the Orifice Modifier and Glider, Prime goes in passively in the presence of sodium hypochlorite, 2–3 gentle amplitudes of about 2–5 mm, until working length (step 8).
› Stop at length. Step 8 again: “Upon reaching length, remove the file to avoid over-enlarging the apical canal portion.”
› Where the shape goes next. Not progressing: the Small, then back to Prime. Loose at length with clean apical flutes: Medium, then Large if needed (steps 10 and 13).
1 Orifice Modifier, then Glider. Coronal third shaped, working length confirmed, glide path made (steps 5–7).
2 Prime to working length. Passively, with sodium hypochlorite, 2–3 gentle amplitudes; irrigate, clean the flutes and repeat (steps 8–9).
3 Read the apical flutes. Loose at length with no dentinal debris: go to Medium. Otherwise confirm length by hand with Prime and try in the Prime cone (steps 13–14).

| The range | Orifice Modifier 20.08 · Glider 17.02v · Small 20.04v · Prime 26.04v · Medium 36.03v · Large 46.02v |
The idea behind the range is dentine preservation. Dentsply Sirona’s brochure puts it in one line: a unique combination of features “enables efficient root canal treatment while removing dentin only where needed.” That is their internal data, and they label it so. What they build it from is published in plain terms:
› A 0.8 mm wire. Dedicated heat-treated NiTi, against up to 1.2 mm for most generic variable tapered files.
› An off-centred cross-section with a regressive taper. Patented, in Dentsply Sirona’s words, on the shaping files.
› No conventional straight-line access. The Orifice Modifier creates the entry point instead; Dentsply Sirona say TruNatomy® preserves dentine in the peri-cervical area while ensuring sufficient apical debridement (data on file).
› Low torque, higher speed. One setting across the range, 500 rpm and 1.5 Ncm – and one motion: “Never brush, but peck with large amplitudes.”
| 1. Orifice Modifier | Orifice Modifier 20.08, 16 mm · coronal third, no deeper than its 7 mm of flutes |
| 2. Glider | Glider 17.02v, 25 mm · reproducible glide path to confirmed length |
| 3. Prime | This file · always the first shaping file |
| If Prime stalls | Small 20.04v, 25 mm · then finish with Prime |
| If Prime is loose | Medium 36.03v, 25 mm · then Large 46.02v in larger, straighter canals |
| Then | Confirm length by hand with the last file, try in the matched Conform Fit® cone, 3-D disinfection, dry with matched points, fill |
Steps 5–16 of the Dentsply Sirona TruNatomy® Solution Guide, summarised.
The sealer goes in with the cone. Dentsply Sirona’s procedure names AH Plus®, their own epoxy sealer. If you work bioceramic, NeoSEALER® EZFlo, 25 mm tips comes premixed with fine 29-gauge NaviTip™ cannulas – resin or bioceramic is a choice of technique rather than a ranking, and we carry both. Then a coronal seal: SDR® flow+ Refill, Universal.
When do I go past Prime?
Dentsply Sirona’s procedure moves on only when Prime is loose at length with no dentinal debris in the apical flutes – then Medium, and Large in larger, straighter canals.
Which points and cone?
The Prime ones. Dentsply Sirona match both to the colour code and size of the last instrument used.
Which motor settings?
Dentsply Sirona give one setting for every TruNatomy® file: 500 rpm and 1.5 Ncm. Set it on any of the three endo motors we stock – X-Smart® Go · X-Smart® Pro+ · VDW.SILVER® RECIPROC®.
When do I throw a file away?
Dentsply Sirona’s procedure (step 11): inspect the cutting flutes routinely on removal for unwinding and straightening, and if deformation is noted, discard it and use a new TruNatomy® instrument.
