How does an expensive Swiss needle become scrap? Not by wear. By one operator putting it down at the end of a long appointment. PD validate their reusable components for fifty reprocessing cycles, but the whole of that depends on one step: clearing the lumen within fifteen minutes, with a stiffened thread. CleanyFloss is the thread PD name for it in the Instructions for Use.

› PD's warning, in their words: if the lumen is not cleaned in time it may be very difficult, if not impossible, to unblock and clean the device.
› Cleaning is not sterilising. The thread clears the bore; the enzymatic soak, ultrasonic bath and autoclave come afterwards.
› Keep it with the syringe, not in a hygiene drawer. A pack in the decontamination room is a pack nobody reaches for at the chairside.

Does it have to be this thread?
PD's IFU names CleanyFloss or EMOFORM Triofloss. The requirement is a spongy, stiffened-end floss that will pass down the lumen – ordinary waxed floss will not thread and will not scour.

How long does a pack last?
Thirty threads, one per needle per use. For most practices that is months; for a busy surgical list it is worth having two.
